As Balance Awareness Week is on the way, which aims to educate individuals about vestibular disorders, we have decided to do our bit to help anyone with a tendency to fall. We have done our research and found some of the best ways you can use to prevent yourself from falling.

Home Prevention Techniques

These are some basic ways that you can prevent falling when you’re working around the house. Falling can happen when you are performing daily activities like cleaning and cooking. You tend to forget about certain things when you’re going through your daily routine.  Here are some basic tips to prevent any falls when you’re at home.

  • Cleaning any spillages when they’re made (don’t leave them for somebody else)
  • Don’t wear socks on slippery floors (like laminate flooring)
  • Use non-slip rugs and mats
  • Take care of your feet and see a doctor if you have any foot-related problems
  • Get help when you’re performing certain tasks

There are, of course, many more ways to prevent slips in the home, but these are the most basic and actionable ones you can do, today.

Vision Tests

This is more related to individuals of an older age or with a history of sight-related problems. It is very important that you get your eyes tested on a regular basis to see if you’re not suffering from any vision impairments. You could easily slip and hurt yourself if you were unable to see a trip wire or an extension lead. If you have bad eyes you should be wearing glasses. If you feel your vision is getting worse (even with glasses) it may be safer to invest in a stronger pair.

Strength and Balance Training
